(Spoiler: If you survived adolescence, you probably have.)
Welcome to the world of Mya Angelique, where teenage chaos meets killer guitar riffs, and emotional spirals become bangers. Her debut EP Paper Girls is like finding your old diary, but it’s louder, shinier, and way more self-aware.
It kicks off with “sixteen”, a bittersweet anthem for anyone who ever felt the pressure to grow up fast and fit in — even if it meant losing yourself a little. Then there’s “quick-brush”, a soft gut-punch in slow motion, capturing that quiet erosion of confidence we all pretend isn’t happening.
“paper girls”, the title track, unfolds like origami heartbreak — fragile, beautiful, and painfully relatable. “the boy in the band”? Pure indie rom-com energy. You’ve had that crush. You know you have.
Things get deep with “the comedown”, a post-high emotional crash landing that leaves nothing but silence. Then, “teenage girl nationality” struts in like a punk manifesto wrapped in eyeliner and sarcasm. And finally, “glitter” — sparkly, sharp, and sad — reminds us that shining isn’t always the same as winning.
Mya Angelique, born in San Juan and raised on classical music and early 2000s teen angst, writes like a girl who knows how it felt — and still feels it. Now studying at Berklee, she blends technical brilliance with emotional honesty in a way that makes you laugh, ache, and text your younger self, “you were doing your best.”
