Default User Shares Debut EP ‘Rotation Demon’

There’s an undeniable sense of atmosphere running through Rotation Demon, the debut project from New York collaborative outfit Default User. Aria Noonan and William Lakritz bring together strands of techno, trance, ambient, and experimental electronica, but what truly sets the EP apart is its emotional architecture. Each track feels tied to a place—shadowy industrial corridors, distant cosmic landscapes, and the strange intimacy of forgotten urban spaces.

“Bad Gateway” sets the tone with jagged rhythms and dreamy synth textures, capturing the restless energy of DIY bedroom production culture. The momentum continues with “Paradise Planet,” which glows with euphoric rave energy before revealing darker undertones beneath its shimmering surface.

The conceptual weight of the project becomes clearer with “Rubber Moses,” where grinding synth patterns echo the tension between urban development and community displacement. “Xhemicals” then catapults the listener into cosmic territory, transforming the EP’s gritty realism into a psychedelic voyage through space and consciousness.

By the time the closing track “Amnesia” arrives, Default User have dismantled their own sonic framework, leaving behind a fragile and contemplative finale. Rotation Demon ultimately feels like a diary of exploration—one that balances dancefloor ambition with introspective storytelling.

“Rotation Demon is a striking debut that feels both futuristic and deeply personal,” says  Danielle Holian, Decent Music PR. “Default User has created a world that pulls from the grit of New York’s underground and the emotional depth of ambient and trance, resulting in a record that’s as immersive on headphones as it is on a dancefloor. It’s rare to hear a project that balances experimentation and accessibility so naturally; this is just the beginning for them.”
