Belgian composer Suntapes continues to expand the world of his upcoming EP Air of Kyrgyzstan with the release of a new single, “Jyrgalan Turnaluu.” The song follows earlier releases “Issyk Kul” and “Shatyly,” gradually revealing the landscapes and atmosphere that shape this six-part audiovisual project.
Working from his studio in Ghent, Suntapes has built a distinctive sound that blends ambient, neoclassical and cinematic influences. Piano melodies, analogue synth textures and field recordings often form the foundation of his work, creating music that feels calm, spacious and closely connected to nature. Travel has always played a major role in his inspiration, and Air of Kyrgyzstan is perhaps his most direct exploration of place so far.
“Jyrgalan Turnaluu” captures the quiet beauty of the remote Jyrgalan region in Kyrgyzstan. The track unfolds slowly, guided by soft ambient piano phrases and wide atmospheric soundscapes. Subtle recordings of flowing water drift through the background, adding a natural rhythm that makes the piece feel almost like a walk through the landscape itself. The music creates a dreamy sense of movement, imagining the path toward the striking Turnaluu Lake surrounded by open mountains and untouched nature.
While “Shatyly” leaned slightly more into melodic electronic textures through the vintage Farfisa Soundmaker keyboard, and “Issyk Kul” introduced listeners to the reflective tone of the project, “Jyrgalan Turnaluu” returns to a more spacious ambient style. The result is deeply relaxing yet immersive, allowing the listener to drift into the scenery rather than simply observe it.
Together, these releases give a growing glimpse into the full vision of Air of Kyrgyzstan. Each track represents a different location, blending music with filmed landscapes to create a calm and meditative experience.
With every new release, Suntapes continues his journey of turning travel, memory and nature into sound. “Jyrgalan Turnaluu” feels like another quiet step deeper into that landscape.
